yields on the 10 year treasury are rising
if the 10 year rises interest rates rise
the reason for this is that the 10 year is considered the safest investment there is since it's literally issued by the US government who can print its own money (through he fed), so if it pays, say 1%, then everyone else also has to pay AT LEAST 1% to justify the risk associated with non-government issued debt
this means that borrowing becomes more expensive for everyone, corporate bonds start failing, bankruptcies rise, money gets pulled out of risky stocks to pay off rising debt costs, etc.
