I'm not sure about that.. Say for instance I buy 200 shares of X company with one order and then a few minutes or days later I buy 200 more shares of X to double my position. My broker divides those shares into separate "tax lots" because they were purchased at different times for different prices. Then if I sell all 400 shares via a market order and it takes 5 different transactions to sell all the shares then I've also had to enter all of those transactions separately. Not sure if I've got to do it that way but that's the way my broker does it. It doesn't really matter to me because I just export all the data from Etrade straight into turbotax and it fills everything out for me.
