debt default is more complicated than people realise.
It can be resolved, but the process of refilling the Treasury can suck liquidity out of the markets.
There is also the risk of the US getting it's credit rating downgraded; that is what happened in 2011 and equities dropped 10% *after* the debt limit was raised.
