There's no going to court unless signed documents are involved though. Emails can be legally binding but only if the person says verbatim "I am going to pay you ____ by _____" which they NEVER do in an email. Everything is fuzzy and "I'll TRY to ___ " etc.

Most of the time if you get ripped off it'll be for a few hundred dollars and no contracts involved.

People know when they're cheating you for less money than a court case is worth. They love it and get a high off it, to be honest.
