I mean they do. Most things do.
The price is what others willing to pay or give you for it. A Euro is 1.2 dollars for example.

Neither does gold, as more and more ounces are mined each year. Though gold naturally can not yet be mined out of space for another hundred years and has a limited supply on earth, both economical and physical in nature.

The fact remains that gold is in itself not worth anything. Just like a rock. Its people giving that rock value. And its value will only increase or even stay stable if people think holding the asset will be profitable, whether by itself or part of a risk strategy. The reason people buying EUR for USD is because they believe in that asset being safe, the same goes for gold. If people would decide that platinum is prettier and that gold offers no value to their portfolio then gold would drop.

The same goes for gold. Gold has no inherent value. It will not work for you. It does not feed you. It sits there and looks pretty.

Its just that you think the risk of the USD imploding is higher than I believe it is

Gold has no value in itself. Its a rock. Its people giving that thing value by moving currency assets into it to profit from the scarcity and "unprintability" of that asset. Its value will drop when people think other assets are more profitable and increase when they think gold is.
