The name "Bitcoin" is not important.
Look, you know what I want? I want to be in a cooperating community with the people who were wise enough, had vision enough, and were forward thinking enough to invest heavy in Bitcoin back when everyone else in the world was all like "BRO LOL NERDCOINS HAHAHA". Then they were wise enough again to fork off despite relentless social pressure and propaganda campaigning when it was obvious that BTC was never going anywhere due to the sabotage and hijack of core. Then they were wise enough again --not to fork off-- when simple hollow platitudes and spouting nonsense from an obvious conman amongst threats and promises which were never even bought close to fruition on the next iteration.
That's the real fucking value, being in a ledger cooperating with these people who went through that process of natural selection. That is what I care about. I could think of little else as a better mechanism for weeding out the exact people in the world who are most likely to share my vision for a world without states and central banks, and who have the dedication, intelligence, and wisdom to pursue it no matter what shit gets thrown at them on the way.
These other chains are interesting, as an engineer evaluating them from a technical perspective. They have plusses and minuses, and they in turn are building communities just like BCH has been for the past ten years. And those communities I'm happy to also be a part of for now, until they do something which I disagree with. But that is not "home" to me. Home is with the BCH'ers.

btw I wonder if this is Craig pouring a couple of millions into BCH. If so expect it to keep going up for several days.

some devs that worked on bitcoin back in 2016 now work on bitcoin cash. have these devs stopped being "the best" simply because they switched project?

>>11319873
of course segwit adoption increased, the critical bug that bitcoin cash discovered in bitcoin core required people to update their node and bitcoin core are forcing people to accept segwit in the later versions whether they want it or not.

also lightning network is a terrible idea even if it actually work (routing still doesn't work at scale btw). someone else using my channel and deplete it? how fun to discover that down at the pub. and if people turn off the ability to route through your channels then the network becomes dependent on huge backbone hubs. the fact that it's even possible to turn off routing through your channel means it is meant to develop into backbone hubs by design.

using lightning network through a direct channel with whoever you're paying doesn't actually count as successfully using LN either. there's no point then. you could set up a micropayment channel ON CHAIN without using LN. not much of a point with a network if you just set up dorect channels, is there?

another also, updating the base layer becomes extremely hard if a bunch of second layers depend on the base layer. imagine if this recent critical bug couldn't be fixed easily since half the planet used lightning with old-node-stuff locking their btc.

and finally, LN isn't even BTC exclusive. if it actually worked (again, it doesn't) it increases the value of competing altcoins as well so I don't know why BTC people cheer so hard for the success of LN.

I don't think it will matter in the long run. To be honest I kind of hope the nChain camp wins just because of the new ABC opcode that can read data from outside the bitcoin system itself. Sounds like something that changes bitcoin too much. Besides, nChain's goal of starting to lock down how the core system works so devs can start developing seriously on top of it isn't such a bad though. All that was needed from BTC was bigger blocks really and Satoshi himself always intended for new opcodes to be added. Doesn't change the core system.

Regardless who wins BCH will live on. Still scales much better than BTC and has a bunch of upgrades like the difficulty adjustment.

listen man, i'm just trying to help you. not trying to shill it. nothing happens on BTC and so much happens on BCH. lightning network doesnt work and even if it did it isn't even BTC exclusive.

even ignoring that, just look at the prices. BCH is much more likely to x10 at 500 USD than BTC at 6000 USD.

yes bitcoin cash is the small spot of warmth in the cold crypto space
don't worry though, that spot will grow and eventually everybody will be warm

this

BCH will take over BTC but BTC will never actually "die" (go to 0) because no crypto ever dies. even bitconnect tokens are still traded...

wrong, it changed the block size limit. check this out:

Checked. Nice green ID also. BCH is the comfiest buy ever. It's literally and practically Bitcoin under $700. And the logo is green so massive gains are absolutely guaranteed.

1) more tx/sec was needed on BTC.
2) it was never a problem to change 1 line of code.
3) with lightning they have tried to create a solution to something that was never a problem.

BCH is 11 months old, BTC 9 years. I think it's going to take a little more time to break the stigma. Most people doesn't even know there are two versions of bitcoin.

6. it's possible to make solutions for micropayment channels on-chain instead. someone just needs to figure out a way for the sender to be able to construct a transaction but he cannot broadcast it, the reciver on the other hand can't change the transaction but he is allowed to broadcast it. the payment channel is then either closed by the receiver with the latest state or it is closed by a timeout with a full refund to the sender.

7. bitcoin (cash) works for payments today. there's no reason to reinvent the wheel. we don't live forever and every year we delay crypto adaption is another year the banks will adapt to instant online global payments. you think it's hard to on-board people with crypto today? good luck if banks offer the exact same user experience as crypto. when that happens the only perk crypto has is censorship resistance and most people just don't care if banks are convenient enough.

TL;DR i wouldn't want to use lightning even if it already worked flawlessly with BCH, BTC, ETH, LTC and whatever else.
