i always figured it was at least partially to discredit XRP in the eyes of casual observers, to make us look crazy.

a big part of the XRP ARG has been kind of an anti-marketing campaign that seems to actively dissuade the majority of crypto holders from getting into it. i think there's a very good chance that Ripple itself (or the contractors, or partners) paid for bots/sockpuppets like these as a form of gatekeeping >>49467126>>49467148
plus all the riddles and weird cryptic influencer accounts are deliberately confusing and offputting for normies. and then the SEC lawsuit is enough to drive off 90% of the normies.

meanwhile, all the partnerships with the biggest banks and agreements and trials with some of the most powerful governments in the world. it's like Ripple (or the people behind/next to Ripple) are deliberately trying to get as few people as possible to hold XRP- which of course fits in with schizo lore.

That was a big part of Project Archeteuthys as well though right? They were seeking a certain kind of person with certain personality traits and skillsets, because it wasn't necessarily trying to sell something or build hype or publicity like other ARGs- the point of the game was recruitment.

Not saying the XRP ARG maps onto Project Archeteuthys 1-to-1, it doesn't, but there are interesting similarities.

Long story short I think the copypasta fake conspiracies and the hate speech and everything else weird about xsg is probably a feature, not a bug, as part of a gatekeeping thing.

there's also the ordeal element of the experience, where it seems like its deliberately designed to be challenging, intimidating. there is suffering involved, and the more involved you get, the weirder and more unpleasant it is. in this way it resembles the ancient mystery religions and modern day secret societies. which is a whole nother can of worms.
