There are people in 2014 who don't recognize a ponzi when they see one is hilarious to me. Does it require exponential growth to maintain a steady rate of income? Check! Does it have any intrinsic legal value? No! Is there a massive movement around inflating the price that behaves like a boiler-room? Check! Are most of the figureheads frauders or have been involved in some type of fraud or allegations of fraud? Check! Everyone from Charlie Shrem to Mark Karpeles have been involved in heavy fraud/money laundering with Roger Verr, "Bitcoin Jesus" who ironically never sacrificed anything for bitcoin, getting his Saint Kitts passport revoked for trying to sell them in bitcoin.
