I'm not convinced that's true anymore. The world is not the same it was decades ago. The US is clearly afraid of losing influence, and they're reduced to desperate measures like useless sanctions, proxy war, and sabotage of its own allies' gas pipelines. Those are not the actions of an empire at its peak, it's one that's in its death throes, and will soon expire as the world turns their collective back to its empty threats.
