DAI might ultimately be the one stablecoin in the system allowing you to store and transact in an uncensored way.

Problem is most of us are chasing moons so if we want to store value in crypto away from governments, divorce lawyers, etc for a long time, we also want to see increase in value not just store of value.

That investment and gain in value long term will probably ultimately be Bitcoin while DAI might be like a short term checking account.

DAI will be back by much more than ETH in the future but ETH is probably always going to remain it's main backing asset. Also the fact that the top 100 wallets hold 92% of MKR makes MKR risky as fuck to hold so anyone thinking it's great should look at those numbers.
