Biomass is predominantly plant matter, so the carbon in it came from the air.
In fact, there are usually designated biomass plantations, which are fast growing trees, and not trash. Maybe some agricultural stuff like corn stalks.

You'd be right if it was plastic or oil or some other fossil based trash, but that's not the case.
