your on the right track, we add more gold to the world market every year, and that should mean that its value should decrease, but its not being distributed in a way to lower its value. People trust gold as a store of wealth more than ever, that and the fact that most of this massive pile of gold is in private hands and is usually only traded between the same groups of private entities means that its price isn't properly controlled by scarcity. I may be butchering how this works though, even I dont 100% understand all the things that control gold and silvers value. I am sure there are also others here who can better explain it than me.
