>My mother is telling me my startup is a joke again and that I should grow up and get a real job

I need a bit of advice on social skills.

Background: I took on the "technology/developer" role helping two guys (one of them my former boss) get their startup idea off the ground. They started the business, getting all the paperwork together and going 50/50 on ownership, while I'm merely working for them (no pay since we haven't made a production-ready product yet). Over the months I've made tons of (in my opinion, invaluable) contributions that brought their idea into fruition. I won't get into the details, but it involves a full and obscure technology stack that I've come to know intimately.

In a few days I'm going to see them in person and ask for equity in the company as we (I) continue to build the product. So my question is this: how do I ask for something like that without being a complete fucking pussy and settling for a small amount (I want to ask for 25%)? I can argue logically with myself how important I am to the future of the product, but I'm also just a coder/developer with no business sense and hate stepping on people's toes. Wat do?

straight up asking me
"whats your lowest price"

One dude I was going back and forth with but ended up not making a deal with wanted to know how much the other person paid me,
You weren't even fucking close with your shitty low ball offer, you missed your chance now fuck off.

Besides I'm not going back on my word,
