So any normal culture would be reasonable about this and just let the women decide when they're available for their husbands, or do it with a calendar or something. Not the jews. With the jews rabbis have to be in charge of every detail of everyone's lives. So jewish women have to wear a white rag in their underwear and bring it to the rabbis for inspection. He has a sniff and if it's not discoloured and there's no smell of blood then she's good to go until next month. If not... she has to wait.

Thing is, even the slightest discolouration or smell can count as menstruation, so women can potentially end up without a sex-hall-pass for months on end. I gather there's a huge thing in jewish culture where married women are responsible for their husband's sexual behaviour, so if he ends up cheating (or molesting the kids) it was because she wasn't putting out right. I don't have a source for that last bit, it's based on a few articles I read of abuse survivors. It absolutely sounds like the kind of DARVO they'd come up with though.

As an additional layer of jeweyness I read some rabbis are corrupt and might pull a kind of "aw gee, I dunno, looks a bit dirty to me, maybe some shekels would make it look cleaner." Rabbis have been caught taking bribes in other areas such as kosher certification so it's somewhat credible.
