I think a big plothole is the way it's being stacked.
I don't think I've ever seen actual gold be stacked that way, and I don't think it would be structurally sound with how soft and heavy pure gold actually is.
You'd think if actual, genuine pure gold gets stacked end-on-end like this, 6ft high, the bars at the very bottom would be a bit worse for wear.

I mean show me any other picture where gold is stored that way in such numbers, and it is without exception either in even smaller stacks of a few hundred bars, or assembled in a manner that spreads the weight more evenly, like a brick wall.
