If there's still short sellers to be burnt by Q4, you still want to have trimmed your position regardless to cover your cost basis and a good chunk of profits
unless it's somehow very clear that Gamestop is going to be the new tech stock somehow (kek)

basically

GME stayed flat through Feb and March because shorts were exiting their position while longs were panic selling
not really sure what the logic was though, guess they saw the price was staying flat while their other positions were going massively red so they ended up covering in panic (and everyone was thinking the same thing so price stayed flat for those 2 months)

a bad enough crash would be bad for GME

shorts would be covering while longs are panic liquidating their shares, end result = price stays flat while short interest decreases massively. See february and march in pic related
