Ror! No, I'm sure normies think it was because there was too little government regulation. I'd say it was more just greed. Mortgage lenders not caring about whether mortgage payments are made and selling their debt to investment banks who kept scooping them up and stopped caring about the risk while the ratings agencies gave all their poopy mortgage bonds AAA ratings just to stay in business and hence didnt concern themselves with the safety of the investors. After it all came tumbling down, naturally people started pulling out of the private sector and threw their money into Gov bonds, further fueling the fall of the US, and hence the worlds economy.
