Poor people can't afford the kind of food you need to look like that, and when they do they don't have time to prepare it in between their two jobs they're working to afford their one bedroom apartment. But it also depends on what your definition of poor is. Back when I was on a $50K salary I could afford both going to the gym with a trainer as well as all the necessary food. But richfags would consider $50K "poor".
