Went to Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia. I Like riding motorcycles so I bought one at a shop on the side of the road for $300 and rode the whole trip on it. The entire year long trip came out to about $10k including flights, border crossings, food and lodging, everything, It's extremely cheap there, hotels are usually $10 a night and full meals are $1-2 including beers. The food was 10/10 fucking amazing. Vietnamese cuisine in particular is excellent. Malay curry is fire too. No ladyboys lol, although I did see plenty of them

Coming home was hard for the first month or two because you're going from the "made it" lifestyle of eating out for every meal, partying on exotic beaches every other night, not caring how much stuff costs, and living in hotelrooms...back to the mundane, boring wagie life. But getting a small taste of the good life will light a fire under your ass and make you want to strive for financial independence so that you can take more trips like that.

For someone like OP who is down on his luck and going through some hard shit in his life, taking an extended vacation could be really healthy for mental health. It gives you a chance to put all that bullshit behind you for a few months while you catch a breath of fresh air. You'll have all the time in the world to be by yourself and reevaluate your life and do some deep thinking without stressing about bills/family/life in general
