I didn't work at a car dealership, but I used to work at big box electronic store. I learned a lot on that job. I don't know how they're structuring your commission, but for us, we were paid 100% commission, 0% salary. It was all on us whether we were gonna sink or swim. Sales is a dirty game man, I had to do all kinds of shit to get sales. I often stood near the front door to catch customers as they walked in. My location was also right next to a phone so I could snag customers calling in. And I made friends with the cashiers; I bought them sodas all the time so they'd give me the "ghost customers", the customers who didn't have a sales sheet so they were a free for all. In the end I made it; I made 75k one year; and believe it or not, almost 25% of that was from the week of Black Friday. That week was wild. My best sale was a boomer who wanted 3 super high end gaming PCs built for his sons, peripherals + monitors + desks, and even including the in house Antivirus we were shilling. The #1 top earner at our company took a big fat shit on me though; he made over 125k every year consistently for over 10 years.

Car sales can be competitive though. I watch a lot of vinwiki and they often feature car salesmen (albeit they're almost always exotic car dealers). This hick worked at a Ford dealership though.
