I would say it's more to do with dopamie/addiction and pre-frontal cortex development.

IQ isn't necessarily related to planning ahead or delaying gratification. And, owning anything is associated with wealth, for obvious reasons.

The risk is basically exactly what you're assuming it is. If it spikes through the roof and stays there, you'll be limiting your upside. If it spikes up and immediately comes back down again, you'll have lowered your exposure and freed up some cash. Diversification is good, you're right to be concerned about holding too much of one name.
