Oh FFS.
If I sell a stock for $1 I don't have the stock anymore, I just have a dollar.
Dividends are (supposed to be) pulled from quarterly profits. If I get a dividend for a dollar, the price of the stock drops by a dollar and then goes back up before the end of the quarer if the company is any good at all.
"This has a high dividend" by itself is a bad reason to buy a stock, that doesn't mean dividends are irrelevant or stupid.
