Surely the government couldn't freeze these derivatives in order to deter against P&D right?
Think about it, people would stop it if the government would prevent people from dumping?
And if gamestop has a balance sheet that is tied to stock price, this could be used as a mechanism to revitalise the company. I think the prerogative for this would be to address the damage to gamestop due to rogue traders and hedge investors and to prevent this from happening again (or even installing a new specific mechanism for addressing this issue and allowing it to contribute to the economy more in real terms rather than just with nominal derivatives).

It's not really a financial mechanism, but it is sort of beyond the scope of a legal mechanism too. Plus it's in reaction to the free market and arguable an action made for the purpose of smoothing out the storm for peculiar stock market moves. The price change is not helpful to the production of real produce, in fact it impedes on it. So this mechanism could be a way to rendering an abrasive nominal price fluctuation into a real benefit.
