i've thought about this in the past myself because of all the fucked up shit going on in the world
felt guilty for being born in the US to a decent family and being a white male having a lot of opportunities. made me feel sorry for those who don't have the same opportunities and the homeless, minorities, etc.
i wondered why we spent so much on space exploration instead of helping them and i realized that it's just the way humans are. we are wired to explore and it'd go against our nature to stop and take care of problems that we believe we will solve by furthering our civilization through space exploration and technological advancements. same reason why humans forever have been trying to build higher and higher structures, trying to reach the heavens.
so yeah, it sucks when you think about the people who need help on earth now, but exploration and advancement are part of human nature and nothing we can do can stop that.
unfortunately, we humans hate each other based on literally anything - race, nationality, accent, region of the same fuckin country others are from, age, etc. so i don't think we'll make it. i think we'll die out far before we can ever build a civilization on another planet.
technology advanced at such an insane rate and made us feel like Gods, but because of that, we are still tribal creatures that are forced to suppress our desires. we can only think selfishly still, and civilization isn't working out for us. look at any government, no trust because they're human too. greedy, envious, lustful, disgusting humans.
in short, giving up on space exploration would be a good idea because our brains won't develop nearly fast enough for us to not wipe ourselves out before we evolve as a civilization.
