Is this inverted yield curve thing a meme? Here's a plot of the yield curve and GDP growth. The claim is that negative yield curve predicts negative GDP growth (recession). I guess I can kind of see a relation if you squint the right way, but it's hardly a great predictor. Seems more likely to be a coincidental relationship with no predictive power.
