>monopolies are only products of government intervention
Somebody slept through their history class.

The entire fucking Industrial Revolution refutes this point.

Machines and automation make concentration of wealth and monopolies a naturally forming occurrence.

US public education has and will be garbage outside of select, wealth suburban enclaves. That or anybody who cares about their kids and can afford it will pay for a private education. Private doesn't just mean Catholic schools either; those have gone downhill over the years.

This guy nails it for the most part. Most attempts to fix the public system are more like to "fix" the system to put more money in the hands of private testing and education firms.

Colleges have lost their way and have become profit centers. They treat foreigners like free money and stiff local citizens until they can no longer be bilked.
Babyboomers helped make this mess by requiring degrees to do dumbass stuff like flip burgers. A return of tradesmen, craftsmen, and artisans may not be such a bad thing since blue collar work needs to come back and be respected.

Just FYI, I was working for a financial services company at the time while having access to loan tapes and watching the market blow up.
For a while, I thought I was going to be put out of a job (what a great way to start a career).
Having a bird's eye view of the market, industry, and actual shit being slung made me somewhat contemptuous of the Occupy Wallstreet kids and their camping out in Zuccotti park. They ruined a great autumn season by shitting up the place. The bulk of the kids I talked to at the protest were either clueless, hilariously unmarketable, or just dopes. I was kind of surprised it took Bloomberg so long to plow those idiots off the park; hell, I would have payed to see that too. The only that would have held up the police would be the mile long boner I'd have.

The OWS movement did make a one year anniversary protest with big, flashy costumes, music, and the same cluelessness that I saw the first time. On the second anniversary, the whole thing just sputtered and died. There were less than 30 people and a table giving away plays, a far cry from the previous year's showing (other than the police who were looking to curb stomp somebody).

No.

CS programs often don't pack enough math for any hefty analytical work.

Most CS degrees I've seen usually wind up the IT field somewhere.
