That's literally ZH's entire pitch, though- that 200 years of progress will finally collapse, that there will be riots in the street and hyperinflation, that investment in ownership of land and businesses will collapse in value but owning gold will be rewarded with untold riches (but only physical gold, because ownership claims won't be enforced this time). It's a fantasy that this time, the entire world economy will go up in flames and nobody will even try to save it, instead letting it burn to the ground so a few neckbeards owning Johnson Matthey bars will become kings of the world.

It's ZH that has been shilling for "this time is different", not everybody else.

Start with something that offers you a positive real return, unlike precious metals (which only ever match inflation). In the long run, stocks uniformly outperform every other asset class by a huge margin- see pic related.

I'd recommend you buy a simple index fund ETF like VT, which is a fund that invests in the stock of every company in the world. You can expect a real return of 5% or so on average, which is way better than gold or silver.
