The cost of living within or even close to major cities basically negates any extent of income with exorbitant expenses. Someone living in NYC making $300k a year is probably the absolute middle of the middle class relatively, and probably only takes home $20k (if they’re lucky) after rent, taxes, and basic expenses are factored in.
