Brad Garlinghouse strikes me as a man who doesn't pick fights he can't win. The way Ripple handled this is also significant- they announced the lawsuit ahead of the SEC's announcement. Another anon also pointed out that Garlinghouse has said the SEC offered to settle with Ripple, but they declined. What this looks like to me is Ripple forcing the SEC's hand in order to secure regulatory clarity and pave the way for institutional adoption of On-Demand Liquidity technology using XRP first for cross-border payments in fiat remittances and interbank transfers, and later as a bridge asset between central bank-issued digital currencies a la the Bancor as proposed in the original Bretton Woods conference.

SEC literally playing into the hands of Ripple with this one, to the point where the timing and circumstances of the lawsuit trigger my prodromal schizophrenia and make me suspect this is all part of some elaborately choreographed dance that ends with the USA somehow seizing victory from the jaws of defeat and using technological innovation to maintain its status as economic leader of the world

reminder that the SEC lawsuit (which hasn't even been filed) is actually a good thing because it will provide regulatory clarity that will allow institutional investment and the beginning of international use of ODL tech, which will make XRP holders very very rich

on some level (unclear exactly how much) this is all theater and Chad Garlinghouse probably chose this moment to force the SEC's hand- reminder that this was announced at or near the moment of the conjunction between Saturn and Jupiter last night
