Some jobs give you good stock benefits. I used to work at Lonza and it was a shitty wagie job but I got a 401K and the company matched my contributions. So not only did I get money, but I got leverage.

You can rent out rooms to cover the tax and deduct money on your taxes to cover the improvements (to those rooms.) You would often be living with people anyways if you are renting out a room in a house so in certain cases owning is much better.
