Any form of culturally imposed morals and ethics would have worked. Christianity is one of the more cucked ones, but it performed well enough during the times of regression after the Roman empire fell. Up until the Renaissance, the Roman empire had been superieur to all of it's predecessors and all of it's descendants in any way. Which is funny, because the Renaissance lauded in the times of reformation, religious schisms and finally atheism.

With the weakening of Christianity in the western world came the biggest leap forward men has ever made since the ancient Romans. Perhaps just an insignificant correlation, but still intriguing.
