It's annoying that they keep trying to coin new names for hikis. China hiki, Nippon hiki, Murcan hiki, Zoomer hiki... still hiki.

Still hiki.

To put it simply, it's entirely a matter of whether or not people want to give you money. Notice I don't qualify that with "to do things for them." That's ancillary, usually to justify expenses to, or to placate, a higher level funder (who likewise, ultimately, is most interested in who they want to give their money to). No amount of expertise, no amount of kowtowing, no amount of trickery will convince someone to pay you more than they think you ought to be paid. The only exception is true leverage - holding something that they want - and this can easily backfire if they feel that it's unfair (to the point of humiliation) that you hold their object of desire. At some threshold, they would rather kill you than pay you.

The flip-side of this is that any given rationalization for why you are paid what you're paid is just that. Because you provide value? Because you're skilled? Because you're good at what you do? No. None of that. You make what has been decided what your income should be, as a proxy for what has been decided what your quality of life should be.

I'm sure that this is a relief for some, and disquieting for others, but it's the truth all the same.

>2020/21 was NFT's
So what will the theme of 2024/25 be?
