Our families growing up in the early 1900s had a simpler playground to play in. Less technology, less people, money wasn't as tight because the distribution of wealth wasn't like it is today. The military industrial complex wasn't anywhere near what it is today. Corporatism wasn't reigning over everyone.

Now there's not a fair value of wealth distributed to everyone and the circumstances in which we live have changed. We have so much excess time invested in nonproductive hobbies and habits.

tl;dr The cost of living is just so different for millennials than what it was for our grandparents in the 1920's.
