So would you prefer the country doesn't favor domestic manufacturing and let foreign companies run roughshod on the industry and take all the profits for themselves? These are what import tax prevents. GM/Ford pretty much let it happen anyway over the last 20 years by making inferior products compared to Honda/Toyota and more.

because the subsidies are there for new EV manufacturers that sell below some level of automobiles, which these savings were passed onto the cost of the original Model 3. Yes Tesla bled these dry, any competitive company would and should.

The europe portion of this is mostly correct. Tesla will not be a player among middle to lower middle class europeans. The Chinese portion is incorrect as the Chinese do not spend their money the same way that Europeans and a portion of Americans do. Even if Tesla weren't the best EV in the Chinese market (it is, by a good portion over Nio, Li, etc.), there is an extra level of buying for the name brand that is not seen even in America aside the highest level consumers that would be seen in China due to the fundamental nature that most companies that do business in China cannot meet demand needs. This is why chinese knockoffs exist in the first place, such a small amount of companies meet the demand of China that they make their own crap to satisfy the demand. Once Tesla really gets their foot there, Nio and Li and whoever else will become footnotes.

I'm taxed 20% in Japan and I'm fine with it. The problem with the U.S. is that your taxes aren't going to anything worthwhile. Something like 35% goes to welfare and single mothers that contribute absolutely nothing. It ASTOUNDS me that this is still happening.

I could go on and on about how I don't mind paying taxes here in Japan, because I KNOW my money is going towards something worthwhile. Roads are pothole free, healthcare is free (and better), college is free (if you get in lol), etc... etc... Fuck America, you won't EVER see a single penny of your hardworking tax money going towards something useful.
And by the way, if you're an American citizen you have to pay American income tax no matter where you live.
