90% of remediation work is water control. You dig trenches to control water flowing off waste piles and channel it to lined containment ponds where it can be treated or allowed to settle. A lot of modern clean up sites build artificial swamps and this does a pretty good job of cleaning up the toxic ARD and sediments. Everything else is building removal and open workings safety related. Maybe tree planting as well.
