Super noob question but i gotta know.

So does the broker keep your capital gains tax and pay it on your behalf or do you actually get like a letter or some shit at some point and you gotta pay all your tax...I know how it works when you are employed (because I am) but I know with a business you need to involve yourself a bit more and not sure where stocks fit in in all of this. Also if i have to work it out myself what's a good method of calculationg how much I owe
