Crypto coins are pieces of technology banks and other industries are looking into. As a software developer I see times where my company uses another tech company as a service to process it's credit card sign ups. We pay for that service. This could be technology that lets you write the payment into the code. Every time I call your service to validate this credit card, my company sends you .001 ETH. This will be the blood of the Internet in a few years. These "coins" are shares of that technology. All these companies talk to each other to get things done and that involves contracts and money. In a few years, the contract and money will be written into the services that talk to each other.
