So, I've been looking into Goldbacks today and came across a video regarding their durability, in that they would fall apart in due time. There are special wallets to store them to help reduce this, but it then made me realize something. Why didn't they just make the all the goldbacks the size of a credit card with the denominations based on thickness. If there's any reason why the manufacturer wouldn't, please let me know why.

I love goldbacks. Yea, they have a high premium, but they retain it because it's figured in to the exchange rate. If you are a careful shopper you can even get them for less than the exchange rate...
Would I bet the stack on them? No, but I have a bunch just like I have a pile of constitutional silver. For those pesky fractional transactions.

I like the idea of goldbacks. Hyper fractional gold you can use in every day transactions with the added cachet of being recognized as legal tender by several states.
The premiums are huge compared to gold coins, but the premiums are figured in to the exchange rate, so you don't immediately lose like you do with fractional gold bullion.
If you're patient and watch carefully, you can get GB's for under the exchange rate, which cuts the premium a lot.
