Had this exact conversation with my wife's friend a year or two ago. She was being offered two jobs one in Birmingham Alabama and the other in San Diego California. At the time she was living in Houston Texas making $75,000. The Alabama offer was for $85,000 and the California offer was for $95,000.

Her immediate thought was 95 is more than 85. I had to breakdown cost of living, taxes, quality of life for her before she realized that she'd be taking a $15,000 paycut to move from Houston. Yet would be making a $15,000 pay raise moving to Alabama.

She had a bachelors degree and 6 years work experience. How the fuck do people not know this shit?
