I wish it was still common but back in the day mines would sell the off cast bullion from production through their office or assay lab to anyone interested. Homestake Mines did that for decades. You can still buy gold directly from small scale miners, especially up in places like the Yukon or Alaska, but I dont know of any major mines that are willing to sell directly to the general public.
