You don't own your house, even after paying it off. You have to pay rent. They don't call it "rent" though, because that would make it obvious. They call it "property tax". If you don't pay your rent, the owner will kick you out.

You need "allodial title" to really own the house.

The solution is to spend as little as you can on a place to live. If you want to "own", buy property and build a house on it. But you can lose a lot by "owning" (watch the coming months). You can't lose your ass by renting. Buying or renting is a rip off, so spend as little as you can on it. If you want to be free.
