SILJ is down 5.5% from the recent peak. It used to be down 13% from the recent peak. Before soaring 70% to its present level, it was 18% down from what was formerly its most recent peak. Why on earth would you let a day like this shake you out?

You don't want to do that. Barrick is already up. Don't chase it. Be patient and wait in your position. Imagine if you sold SILJ on 18 June, and missed the consequent 70% move higher. The whole mining sector is going to soar because of this investment. It isn't about Barrick in particular. It's a starting-gun to cause a stampede of new money into the industry. SILJ will outperform Barrick by far in the long-term.

I'm more sceptical about the miners going down, simply because they never really responded to the metals on the way up. They are already priced for $1700 gold and $18 silver. At the very least I don't expect the junior small caps to go down much any more. Financially educated people buy those, who won't be easily shaken out. Not the sort of people who panic-sell their mining stocks because gold went down 1%, even though the miners should already be 3x what they are in order to reach fair value.

On the other hand, if GDXJ/SILJ did continue to go down for another week, it would accord with the historic pattern. They went down for four weeks before, 18% off the peak, before soaring up 60%.

Everybody who bought SILJ within the past few weeks should keep this picture in mind.

By the way, picture-related illustrates how short-termist your thinking is.
