It would be one thing if actual cypherpunk-type ideals proliferated throughout the space and promoted sound money, self-custody, and non-reliance on central institutions that can rug your whole savings like the bitcoin OGs advocated for. The intention then was to give people control and options over their money and know exactly how it is secured, the plan was to make an alternate system for people to use that would maximize freedom from regulators. Were that the case then chainlink's corporate adoption and takeover would be a bittersweet thing, as one anon put it, because if these ideals were still present in the crypto universe today then it would be as if sergey was slowly snuffing out the light on a small community of freedom-minded people to bring their technology to the mainstream and introducing whatever regulation that "requires".
That being said these ideals have all but vanished and been distorted by the current "crypto elite", with the average user not giving a shit about sovereignty, flexibility, and freedom of having one's own value and one's own power to shape one's future and instead looking for the next "gem to ape into". The same old tradfi players have weaseled their way in and have been doing the exact same thing with this ecosystem that OGs tried to get so far away from.
