They have been conditioned to respond to certain stimuli because they are, in fact, brainwashed without even realizing it. The narrative has become a part of their identities, and as such they will vehemently and violently defend what they perceive to be a threat to their identities, which is anyone or anything who questions the narrative. They have zero self-awareness when it comes to what's really going on in the world, they only know what is conditioned to make them feel good, very much like a computer program.
