I spent much of the last week fleeing from the Oregon fires, catching rides with near-strangers away from some of the most devastating burnings before I could catch a plane out of the smoke.

Most of what I encountered along the way was human decency and warmth, mutual solidarity in a shared crisis. I just about forgot the suffocating level of spite, misery, and self-loathing that I accepted as the human baseline from spending so much time on /biz/.

But you freaks aren't normal. You likely have a double-digit percentage of sociopaths as well as narcissists, and most of the rest should seek counseling for elevated suicide risk. This place is fucking demonic. And yeah, I've made money from it, but so what when it means putting up with all that?
