the covered calls scheme seems so fucking worthless unless you have massive quantities of shares in that stock. in which case you might as well just hold them. am i missing something? the premiums are so low

im trying to write a covered call using fidelity. i guess im retarded, because when i try to set a strike price above the current price, and use 8/21 expiration, my max gain is always 0.00, my loss is unlimited, and my break even is (for say a stock currently at $8.80, strike price set for $12.50) like $87. that cannot be right. can someone help?
