Same again with trade in the Far East. Who gives a fuck if the coins are square, have holes in them and weird gook scribbles on them, if they’re good silver/gold/copper?

Arguing about the difference between ASE/generic is the exact same argument about Numismatic value. It’s all relative and subjective, and it’s all splitting hairs. Silver and Gold are silver and Gold. And merchants failing to recognize and trade in that will be outperformed by their competitors who don’t.
