No idea about UK refineries, but the US inherited it's love of Sterling from you guys, UK is 2nd only to the US in available supply listed on eBay so you'll do fine, I've seen plenty of good UK deals that would be awesome for UK scrappers but too expensive with additional international shipping costs to the USA.

Dunno what the 2nd hand rummage sale/curiosity shop scene is like in the UK but my best deals ever have been IRL. Got this platter containing 926 grams of pure for $4 at the local Goodwill thrift shop in July (keeping it, I collect antique silver too). Cheaper than the damn burger I bought to celebrate the score.

BIN is "buy it now", so if you sort by newly listed you can be among the first to see the inexpensive good deals that get listed. Getting deals on coin is good too, but scrapping is the best reliable source for cheap silver I've come up with. Forgot picrel of 4 dollar silver platter, honestly inclined to keep it instead of melt.

Here is a good example that I literally just bought right now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/293725124112

It's all obvious in the listing, 477 grams of sterling (maybe 470 subtracting enamel) for what worked out to 225 total for me. Melt price is 377.25 ATM, instant gravy ya know what I mean? I love autism lol.
