I cried watching it's a wonderful life for the first time as an adult
Sometimes you'll come to times in your life in which you wish you could cry but you can't

Life is like a movie, you can choose to engage with it when it's fulfilling to do so, but no matter the story you can always choose to "disengage" like if you ever got too scared and too sad at a movie as a kid and your parents told you "remember, it's just a movie", because it's not USEFUL or HELPFUL to get that upset about a movie

This is the same in real life
If an emotion is clearly not serving you well, you can sit and with it for a time usually a few hours perhaps, think about whether it's a good or helpful thing to be having these feelings or reactions to a situation, and then choose to engage or disengage

You ought to be able to see that your mom is off her nut a bit, so it's silly for it to make you feel bad when she does something that's just a natural outcome of the unhealthy way she behaves
