I've been working for VISA for a long time and yes, increasing your limit is good idea. Just be sure to always pay your account in full before the due date and use less than 35% of your credit limit. If you use more than that, you will lower your credit score and appear as risky to lenders. People who always pass no problem for loans, mortages, auto loans etc. are people that have a limit of like 25k and only use 1k/month. That would be the best case scenario.

Oh and don't worry about it, most of our credit card issuers have Zero-Responsibility policies in case of fraud, so basically you could get screwed up for 50k and not pay a cent because of it.
